The instructional component of the programs is designed to strengthen the knowledge of math, writing, and critical thinking skills necessary for students to be successful on standardized tests and improve school performance. Our instructors serve as guides and role models, as well as one-on-one coaches to the students. We are currently looking for instructors in the following programs: Math and Writing & Critical Thinking.

Time Commitment:

  • 3-4 hrs/week total from September through May
  • 2 hours on Saturdays during session from 10-noon providing direct instruction to students
  • 2 hours (flexible/ asynchronous) to prepare for session in partnership with curriculum director and other instructors

Instructor Expectations:

  • A college graduate
  • Dedication and commitment to working with peers to support student learning
  • Teaching experience and deep knowledge of all topics not required
  • Attend 75% of the sessions from September through May

For more than 22 years, Minds Matter National has been making competitive college admission a reality for underserved students nationwide. Minds Matter transforms the lives of highly-motivated, low-income students by providing the individualized mentoring, standardized test preparation, and writing and critical thinking instruction that has been proven necessary to achieve college success.

Description

Minds Matter serves nearly 650 motivated students in cities nationwide and pairs them with volunteers committed to helping them achieve their academic and personal goals. The program provides:

  • Academic mentoring
  • SAT/ACT test prep
  • Writing and critical thinking instruction
  • Access to prestigious summer enrichment programs
  • Guidance through the college application and financial aid processes
