MusicalMinds is a free holistic, after-school music program changing the lives of children in Mecklenburg County North Carolina. Students develop social, academic and music skills.
MusicalMinds (MM) is inspired by the El Sistema model introduced in Venezuela 40 years ago. Founded by the Lake Norman North Carolina Kiwanis Club in 2011, MM operated in an incubation phase from September 2012 to December 2014 to create a solid program that is effective and can be easily replicated. MM’s mission is to provide an after-school platform for social change by transforming the lives of underserved youth through a classical music training program infused with character education promoting self-esteem, teamwork, leadership and social responsibility.
We're always looking for good people to join the MusicalMinds team! We need passionate board members to help us achieve the mission of bringing music into the lives of at-risk students. We are looking for a variety of individuals from varying skilled backgrounds like accounting, legal, fundraising, and many others. MusicalMinds is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization, so board members serve in a voluntary capacity and are not compensated financially.

MusicalMinds transforms the lives of children by providing free, musical instruction to those with the fewest resources and greatest needs. Our goal is to develop talent, self-esteem, decision-making, and a value system that will translate into long term success in school, and ultimately, enhance the opportunities for success in society. Social change through music is at the heart of the MusicalMinds program, which prepares children to become productive back into their community, rather than relying upon it.
Description
MusicalMinds is a free, after-school program, Monday-Thursday from 3-5 PM, providing music education and instruction to children beginning in the first grade. Numerous performances helps build confidence and self-esteem. Having older children mentor younger children helps to build leadership skills. Playing classical, orchestral music promotes teamwork, which enhances acceptance and diversity.
