Gateway Community Industries seeks volunteers to assist with Meals on Wheels program

Position Concept: To provide engagement, and meal delivery services to Seniors who are participating in the Office for the Aging’s Nutrition Program to ensure their safety and well being

Position Responsibilities:

1. Pick up meals from assigned location and deliver to individual homes on assigned route in accordance with program procedures.

2. Establish connections and provide daily contact with Seniors.

3. Utilize assessment techniques to screen for risk factors to Seniors’ safety and well being..

4. Report any non emergency concerns to Program Manager at the end of the shift..

5. Follow written emergency procedures when encountering emergencies during home contact visits.

6. Maintain documentation of delivery, services and concerns. Complete and submit to supervisor required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.

7. Maintain a record of meal temperatures in accordance with regulations and submit documentation to Program Manager.

8. Collect, record and secure monetary donations from meal recipients, in accordance with program procedures and submit donations to Program Supervisor on a daily basis.

9. Ensure all incidents are reported to Program Supervisor in a timely manner , in accordance with program procedures.

10. Attend all required trainings.

11. Present in a professional, courteous manner at all times.

12. Display Gateway ID at all times.

13. Maintain clean driver’s license,

14. Be familiar with the Safety and Health Accident Prevention Program and abide by all safety and health rules, work practices, and regulations.

15. Understanding and adhere to Gateway Community Industries’ Corporate Compliance Policy and Standards of Conduct as well as all applicable program rules, regulations and policies

16. Attend all scheduled training and supervisory sessions facilitated by Certified Rehabilitation Counselor.

17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications and Required Skills: High school diploma and one year related experience. Valid NYS Drivers License. Must maintain a driving record which meets the insurable criteria of the Agency’s automobile insurance carrier and pass a criminal background check. On going training will be provided to all staff and volunteers.

NONPROFIT AGENCY SUPPORT - Ulstercorps responds to emergency, short- and long-term volunteer needs of local organizations by posting descriptions of requested volunteer assistance on its website and by contacting specific volunteers already registered with Ulstercorps' skills bank who have the needed skills. STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY - UlsterCorps' web site and blog provide an interactive forum where members of the community can find opportunities to help out, explore a calendar of events, post specific needs and share their experiences with the programs and agencies for which they have volunteered. OUTREACH - UlsterCorps is prepared to assist in new laudable nonprofit programs and projects in Ulster County by disseminating information, assisting in identifying viable and valuable prospective collaborators, and recruiting needed volunteers.
