ORGANIZATION: Be A Mentor, Inc.

We are currently looking for interns to administer the 'exit’ survey to families and youths matched through this program.

Upon being matched with a mentor, each student, parent, and mentor must fill out a baseline survey. The exit, or 'follow-up', survey attempts to qualify the various ways that the youth may have been impacted over the 12-month duration of their match. The hours for this opportunity will be evening hours from 6pm-9pm, although start time can vary.

Volunteer will...

  • Set up appointments with families
  • Administer surveys at each family's home
  • Have own reliable transportation
  • Must be available 2-3 times a week

Be A Mentor, Inc. has been positively interacting with at-risk and academically low performing youth since its founding in 1992 and continues to connect youth with dedicated volunteer adults throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. We provide a direct mentoring service to at-risk youth (such as those in foster care; with incarcerated parents; susceptible to gang participation, drug/alcohol abuse or teen parenting; homeless/in transition or academically struggling).

Description

The Be A Mentor Program trains Mentor Site Coordinators, pairs caring adult volunteers from the community with youth in one-to-one relationships. Mentors give of their time to be a friend, answering questions, and providing guidance. Mentors come from a variety of backgrounds and occupations and volunteer their personal time to be a caring friend to a youth. They serve as a role model, advocate, and resource. The purpose of the mentoring relationship is to help youth develop their full potential, both in and outside of the classroom.
