Open Position: AmeriCorps VISTA - Strengthening Homeless Families VISTA- will support the Family Support Center of South Sound in furthering organizational capacity to effectively operate Pear Blossom Place.

Role: The Strengthening Homeless Families VISTA member will support the Family Support Center in building organizational capacity to effectively operate Pear Blossom Place: A Family Support Community, a newly developed 24/7 family shelter and affordable housing project through securing and maintaining sustainable partnerships, recruiting and supporting the increased need for volunteers, implementing a newly developed volunteer software, leveraging in-kind support, and identifying new funding opportunities to support the agency’s mission and strengthen our role as the coordinated entry for ALL homeless families with children in Thurston County. The VISTA member will support in expanding our capacity to serve homeless and low-income families with children by increasing: overall number of volunteers, recruiting and training new volunteers and improving overall retention; amount of financial/in-kind resources including identifying new sources and developing innovated new methods/systems; coordination among community partners/service agencies working together to improve access, efficiency, and measurement of homeless individuals in our community.

PROJECT GOALS

1) Increase financial and in-kind resources to support the long term stability of the shelter and housing facility.

2) Volunteer coordination, including further volunteer training development to improve volunteer’s readiness and preparedness to volunteer with the organization.

3) Recruit new volunteers for the Family Support Center.

4) Strengthen community partnerships around Coordinated Entry.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in social services or related field. May substitute education for comparable work experience.
  • Experience working with volunteers and diverse populations, community organizing, fundraising, recruitment, public speaking, social services, and organizing training’s.
  • Skills: Ability to write and speak effectively with all audiences.
  • Technology: Computer literacy; Proficiency in the use of Microsoft office programs
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Other: This position is through the AmeriCorps*VISTA Program and subject to that program's benefits and restrictions.

Term: This position runs for 1 year, from Aug. 31, 2015, to Aug. 30, 2016.

Responsibilities:
1. Attend Pre-Service Orientation prior to beginning service (scheduled for Aug. 24-27, 2015) and serve full time for the entire 12-month term of service. Attend all training and fulfill all reporting required by AmeriCorps*VISTA.
2. Participate in United Way of Thurston County's VISTA Team activities as appropriate/required.
3. Follow Family Support Center of South Sound’s Personnel Policies.

4. Work closely with agency supervisor to meet project goals in accordance to VISTA Assignment Description (VAD) and collectively update and adjust as needed.
