  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Michigan Audubon is looking for experienced woodworkers to assist with several projects at Capital City Bird Sanctuary in Lansing, MI. Projects include:

  • Wood Duck Nest Boxes
  • Nesting Tower for Chimney Swifts
  • Small Footbridges
  • Carved Trail Signs

We can provide instructions for the nest boxes and Chimney Swift tower. Volunteers interested in building a footbridge must have engineering or prior footbridge building experience. These projects would be great for an Eagle Scout project!

Mission Statement

Michigan Audubon connects birds and people for the benefit of both through conservation, education, and research efforts in the state of Michigan.

Description

Formed in 1904 and formally incorporated in 1905, Michigan Audubon is the state's oldest conservation organization. Michigan Audubon's commitment to birds continues in the form of organized bird-related data collection by a community of "citizen scientists." Likewise, the organization educates thousands of bird watchers each year through a series of educational programs and events.

Currently, Michigan Audubon maintains a membership of over 2,500 individuals and businesses and 32 active local chapters of Michigan Audubon statewide.

Michigan Audubon protects nearly 4,000 acres of important wildlife habitat in 18 sanctuaries in the Upper and Lower Peninsulas. Rivers, lakes, marshes, bogs, fens, grasslands, hardwoods, and northern conifer communities are found in these protected areas. These lands not only serve as a refuge for many species of wildlife, but they also preserve a wide range of our state's valuable natural resources and are used for recreation, education, and research. Michigan Audubon is a partner in the Important Bird Areas program which identifies significant tracts of bird habitat which may need protection for the sustainability of threatened and endangered bird populations.
