Description

Gram Vikas Trust , Bharuch known as GVT is a non-profit, Non-Government Organization established in the year 2001. The organization is working in Bharuch and Narmada districts and other economically vulnerable geographical regions of Gujarat. The Bharuch region is afflicted with entirely different environmental problem. The project area is drought prone area and located near the high tide line of the gulf of Khambhat. The river Narmada flows in the south side of Bharuch city. The area has led deterioration of soil quality and increased salinity of the ground water due to ingress from the sea. Due to saline water there is no irrigation facility exist in Vagra, Amod and Jambusar blocks resulting in rain fed agriculture and majority of the farmers growing only one crop a year during the monsoon. The region of Narmada district is pre-dominantly tribal and afflicted with high soil erosion due to undiluted land. The main crops of the region are cotton, Bajari, Juwar and wheet. After the monsoon season, people migrate for wage labour towards the saltpan and sugar factory. GVT works with the marginalised communities in about 200 villages. The main office of the organization is located in Bharuch for administrative and management purpose.
