ORGANIZATION: National MS Society - California

Thank you for your interest in participating as a volunteer at Bike MS Coastal Challenge! There are many volunteer opportunities at Bike MS; families, friends, groups, organizations and individuals are encouraged and welcome to participate.

Some volunteer positions require a criminal and/or DMV background check.

Below are opportunities where you can volunteer as individuals or together, as a group, all along the Bike MS Coastal Challenge Route.


Support and Gear Vehicles

Volunteers will patrol the route in SAG vehicles, providing basic bike maintenance and picking up cyclists in need of assistance from along the course and transport them to the next rest stop.

Moto Safety

Volunteers who own their own motorcycle that can be leap-frogged to specific areas to patrol the route, check on the well-being of riders, and respond to emergencies and traffic situations.

Rest Stop Team

Rest stop volunteers are responsible for setting up and breaking down their Stop. You will mix sports drink, hand out snacks, and cheer on the Bike MS cyclists who are riding to end MS! Must be able to arrive early for set up and stay until Stop materials are picked up. Make your rest stop festive and fun! Rest stop teams are encouraged to dress up and decorate their Stops.

Route Convoy

The Route Convoy team will assist in directing staff along the route to set up Rest Stops. Should be comfortable spending long periods of time in a vehicle as the position requires stopping and getting in and out of vehicle frequently.

Medical Support

Part of the rest stop team, medical support will be stationed at stops along the route to provide first-aid to cyclists as needed.

Bike Tech

Stationed at rest stops along the route, the Bike Tech volunteer will provide mechanical support and maintenance to cyclists before continuing on the route.

Route Marking

The Route Marking team will assist staff in marking the route with signage and directional arrows and taking down signs as the route closes. Should be comfortable spending long periods of time in a vehicle as the position requires stopping and getting in and out of vehicle frequently.

Ride Marshall

Ride Marshalls are cyclists and Bike MS participants that are committed to ensuring riders follow the rule-of-the-road and Bike MS safety guidelines. This position will assist cyclists along the route and not be wary of enforcing the rules to safe riding.
