The Arthritis Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit whose mission is to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases.
The Public Health and Education Intern will assist the Program Department with bringing evidence-based, life-changing programs to people affected by arthritis in our community through programs such as Put Pain in Its Place and RA Just Diagnosed. In addition, the intern’s semester project will include creating and conducting a needs assessment for the Great West Region’s Juvenile Arthritis Program, interpreting the data and making recommendations based on findings, so that we may better serve the thousands of children and their family living with JA. This intern will also coordinate the Arthritis Foundation’s efforts, in conjunction with University of Colorado Medical Center staff, to execute successful Early Detection Rheumatoid Arthritis Screenings and to have a presence at the Health Fairs. This position may also be responsible for: communicating with program volunteers; maintaining pre-and post-event databases; assistance with ongoing volunteer recruitment; providing general clerical support; and performing other duties as necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Seek out new community partners for the Put Pain in its Place and RA Just Diagnosed programs.
• Present and facilitate these programs and other Arthritis Foundation programs in the community.
• Create and conduct Great West Region juvenile arthritis needs assessment among parents, students and staff.
• Evaluate data from needs assessment and current environment to make recommendations to staff and committees.
• Assist in the coordination of the Arthritis Foundation’s participation of the Early Detection Rheumatoid Arthritis Screenings and health fairs.
• Recruit, coordinate and train volunteers to assist with the Early Detection Rheumatoid Arthritis Screenings.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience and comfort in public speaking
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
• Possess excellent organizational skills
• Excellent computer skills and
• Ability to interpret data
• Customer-service oriented
• Outstanding attention to detail
• Prefer a junior, senior or graduate student seeking degrees in public health or public administration
• Ability to juggle multiple tasks

- partners with community organizations to provide people with arthritis access to evidence-based physical activity programs (aquatic exercise, land-based exercise, tai chi & walking)
- offers free educational seminars & patient education brochures
- provides support and activities for children with Juvenile Arthritis & their families
- referrals to local rheumatologists, support groups
- funds arthritis research both locally and nationally
- provides physicians with continuing medical education in the form of the annual Knowles Lecture
- offers the Summer Science Intership Program which provides top-notch HS juniors and seniors & college frosh & sophomores the ability to work in arthritis research at UCSF & Stanford.
