ORGANIZATION: Durham Literacy Center

The Durham Literacy Center is looking for a dedicated person to serve as an AmeriCorps member and assist the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program!

As a member of the North Carolina LiteracyCorps, the ESOL AmeriCorps directs all aspects of volunteer and student recruitment and assists with tutor training, student intake and assessment, and daily program operations. This full-time service position (1700 hours between August 2015 and July 2016) is administered by the Student Coalition for Action in Literacy Education (SCALE) and includes health insurance, child care assistance, a living stipend of $12,530 and an educational award of $5,730 upon the completion of the service year.

Description

The DLC provides direct individual and small group instruction in reading, writing, English language, and computer skills to adults and families seeking to improve their education and/or move toward economic self-suffiency. We partner with a number of social service, health, education, and workforce-related organizations and agencies to meet the diverse needs of the Durham community.
