Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Garden State Underwater Recovery Unit. We are a diverse, volunteer group of SCUBA divers, diver support tenders, Boat operators, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) and Water-rescue technicians who specialize in handling virtually any type of water-related emergency in and around NJ and the tri-state area.
Since our creation in 1957, our members have responded to many thousands of incidents involving drowning victim recoveries, police evidence searches, underwater structural inspections, flood rescues and water-safety stand-bys. Although most of our efforts are concentrated in Hunterdon, Warren and Somerset counties, we have responded to locations as far away as Long Island NY, Washington DC, and the New England states.
The majority of our operations take place on the Delaware river from Easton PA down to Point Pleasant PA, and in the local reservoirs of Round Valley and Spruce Run state parks in NJ, and Lake Nockamixon state park in PA. However we have no specific "territory", and will gladly respond to almost any location as requested, as long as time and finances allow.
Our building is located in Milford, NJ, approximately 15 miles northeast of Flemington, and across the Delaware river from the town of Upper Black Eddy in Bucks county, PA. We meet each Thursday evening from 7:30 PM until around 9 PM or whenever our drill is completed. The first Thursday of every month is devoted to our monthly business meeting.
As a member of the Unit, you will receive numerous opportunities to advance your basic scuba skills and help the community at the same time.
You are cordially invited to stop-by on any thursday evening to meet with us; we would be happy to give you a tour of our facilities and answer any questrions you may have about who we are and what we do. Or you can find out more about us on our website located at GSURU.ORG
