Become an Adopt-A-Display Volunteer with the Children's Art Project!

With your help we can make a difference in the lives of the courageous (and creative!) pediatric patients of MD Anderson Cancer Center. The Children's Art Project partners with over 2,000 retail locations every year, and it's our goal to have a wonderful Adopt-A-Display volunteer help at every store! Volunteers check displays at their neighborhood retail store to ensure they are well stocked and in a prominent location. When a store starts running low on product, our Adopt-A-Display volunteers help let us know it's time to send a re-order. The money raised through re-orders is a critical component of our revenue each year. Volunteers also help spread awareness about our displays and serve as a friendly face of the Children's Art Project at their local store!

A few more basics:

  • Make your own volunteer schedule!
  • Visit your store(s) when it's convenient for you and your family. Our three selling seasons are Valentines, Spring/Everyday and Holiday. Some retailers also sell our products year-round. Sign up for any/all that fit your schedule.
  • Displays are delivered directly to the retail outlets and should be set up promptly by store personnel. You don't have to worry about the set-up!
  • Share any observations and inventory updates to the retail team (via email, phone or fax) every other week.
  • We also love hearing what's going on in your community. We're one big family of staff and volunteers, and we would love for you to join us in support of the wonderful pediatric patients here at the M.D. Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital.

Mission Statement

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Children's Art Project's mission is to make life better for kids with cancer and their families. Transforming pediatric patients' artwork into products allows us to share their amazing creativity and the overall mission of MD Anderson and the Children's Cancer Hospital - to Make Cancer History.

Description

Founded in 1973, the Children's Art Project's highest priority is ensuring young patients have opportunities to live a more normal childhood. Through sales of young cancer patients' original artwork featured on cards and gift items, the project has returned more than $30 million to programs that benefit pediatric cancer patients and their families.

More about the Children's Art Project:

  • Over the past 30 years, our programs have touched more than 26,000 patients and their families.
  • We have over 500 unique products in our assortment featuring artwork created in weekly art classes as a part of the in-hospital classroom curriculum.
  • Products are sold in more than 2,200 retail locations throughout the U.S. at no profit to the retailer.
  • After product costs and services are paid, all proceeds ($1.25 million annually) are returned to fund patient programs.
  • Last year volunteers contributed over 472,200 hours to the organization - the equivalent of 232 full-time employees! Truly phenomenal!
