Gemma, a program of Encompass Community Services, supports formerly-incarcerated people in successful re-entry into the community after incarceration.
Our transitional house for women provides safety, structure and support for 6 women, for up to 18 months in a residential home in the community.
The Gemma House has a large yard, garden area, and fruit trees that need maintenance and support. Our residents and staff are committed to helping our landscape and gardens thrive; they just need your time and expertise.
This volunteer position requires the following committment and experience:
- Respect for the confidentiality and safety of the space and the residents who live at Gemma
- Ability to teach and guide those with limited knowledge in garden maintenance
- A minimum of 1.5 hours per month, on Sundays
- A moderate-to-advanced knowledge of landscaping techniques for fruit trees, succulents, perennial and annual foliage
- A knowledge of irrigation systems
- A knowledge of composting and sustainable and drought-resistant gardening/landscaping practices
