Back to School Excursion

Shopko and The Salvation Army Kroc Social Services are partnering again this year for the Community Back-to-School Basic Clothing Excursion serving our local youth grades K-12 with back to school clothing needed to start their year off right. On August 18th and 19th The Salvation Army will be taking over 100 students shopping. Each student will be paired with a shopping buddy who will help them pick out clothes and keep track of the money. Each child will have 150.00 dollars to spend, which goes far with Shopko's generous discounts. To make these students feel extra celebrated, The Kroc Community Center will host a pool party and serve lunch!

Volunteers are needed to fill the role of "Shopping Buddies". Shopping Buddies will act as mentors for the day, encouraging students to have a blast while helping meet this basic need. Volunteers must be over 17 years old.

To help these kids feel celebrated, we are starting the day with a pool party at the Kroc Community Center and lunch before we transport them to Shopko for shopping fun!

There are a few options for volunteers:

1. Volunteers can come for the pool party only and would need to be at the Kroc Community Center from 11 AM-2 PM

2. Volunteers can come for the shopping part only and would need to be at Shopko from 2 PM-4:30 PM

3. Preferred option: Volunteers can come for the entire time and commit to being there from 11-4:30. (It is preferred that volunteers transport themselves from the Kroc Center to Shoko, if possible.)

Happy shopping!

Mission Statement

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Description

The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 in England by William Booth, and his ministry as been spreading throughout the world ever since. The Salvation Army arrived in Salem, OR in 1886. For over 125 years we have been feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, and helping the disenfranchised, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with shelter, food, and other basic needs. The Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center opened in the Fall of 1999.

Making all this run requires the help of hundreds of volunteers. Whether you volunteer once for a special event, or on an ongoing basis, we need people with willing hearts and cheerful attitudes to serve the Salem-Keizer community.
