Free Arts operates a daily program at Edmund D. Edelman Children's Court in Monterey Park. As a Free Arts volunteer working with the Courthouse Program, you will lead children, and often their adult caregivers, in simple arts and crafts projects as they wait for their court hearings. The art activities help to alleviate some of the stress and anxiety present in the court situation. Many children arrive at court feeling anxious, and after working with you they will leave with a greater sense of confidence and self-worth because they have had fun creating something special to take home.
Volunteer shifts: Monday-Friday (9:30am-12:30pm) and Monday-Thursday (12:30pm-3:30pm)

Mission Statement
Free Arts inspires hope in the lives of children who have experienced abuse, neglect, poverty and homelessness through innovative creative arts programs and positive interactions with caring adult volunteers.
Description
Free Arts volunteers are community members, students, professionals, retirees, artists, educators and activists from diverse backgrounds. Our volunteers help us reach over 27,000 underserved kids each year through four cornerstone programs: The Free Arts Mentoring Program, Free Arts for Families Program, Free Arts Days, and The Free Arts for Children's Court. Programs take place in group homes, residential care facilities, domestic violence shelters, low-income housing communities, and family resource centers throughout greater Los Angeles. We have a variety of ways for volunteers to get involved, from single day commitments to regular, weekly mentoring opportunities.
