ORGANIZATION: Tobacco-Free Coalition of Weld County

The Tobacco-Free Coalition of Weld County is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the role of Coalition President.

Coalition Presidnet Responsibilities:

  • Presides at monthly Coalition meetings:
    • Works to keep the meeting on target and productive.
    • Encourages all Coalition members to participate fully in all meetings.
    • Prevents and resolves conflicts among team members.
    • Ensures that all Coalition members’ views are represented in Coalition meetings.
    • Maintains an orderly atmosphere of good business.
  • Assists and encourages Coalition members to build skills.
  • Appoints standing and ad-hoc committees and committee chairs.
  • Encourages all committees to function well and be accountable to the full Coalition.
  • Signs official documents requiring signature.
  • Represents Coalition in public and official capacities.
  • Leads the organization toward the accomplishment of its mission.
  • Coordinates annual Board meetings.
  • Works as a team member with Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment Tobacco Control Program staff to meet program goals.
  • Participates in regular Coalition leadership planning meetings.
  • Continually broaden expertise in the area of tobacco control and serve as resource person to the Coalition and community.
  • Recruits and maintains a diverse Coalition membership with local, state, and national partners.
  • Coordinates Coalition outreach activities and community meetings.
  • Encourages the Coalition to create long-range planning:
    • Directs needs assessment activities
    • Reviews community health indicators data
    • Directs coalition in developing tobacco control policies
  • Continuously evaluates Coalition effectiveness and coalition strategic plan.
  • Collaborates with health department administrators, elected officials, heads of health plans, hospitals, physicians’ health organizations, related businesses, academic institutions and community-based organizations to promote Coalition’s mission and goals.
  • Assists Coalition in developing local policy that promotes the Coalition mission by: developing position statements; reviewing and recommending endorsements of policies, and advocating for policies at state/local levels.
  • Assists Weld County municipalities in developing local policy:
    • Meets with key stakeholders such as city officials, law enforcement, and the city or county attorney, to educate them and solicit feedback and support.
    • Educates and builds support for tobacco control policies among community leaders via one-on-one meetings, presentations, and other strategies.
    • Identifies and solicits city council member sponsor for policy initiative.

Description

The Tobacco-Free Coalition of Weld County is committed to educating and implementing new and existing tobacco policies including: preventing youth from starting tobacco use, helping people who use tobacco to quit, assisting in the reduction of and protection from second-hand smoke, and reducing tobacco use among groups that are disproportionately affected and/or at high risk.
