Please come join us at Heshima Kenya in selling beautiful, one-of-a-kind hand-dyed scarves at Square Roots Festival this year! Not only will you help us sell the scarves, you would be supporting our mission. We have a holistic model in which we help young refugee women in Kenya build confidence, independence and self-efficency through education, safe housing and entreprenuership. The girls make these scarves which we then sell in the U.S. All proceeds goes back to the girls so that they can start to earn a living. You will explain this to others while selling the scarves. We appreciate your help!!

Mission Statement
Heshima Kenya specializes in identifying and protecting unaccompanied and separated refugee children and youth, especially girls, young women and their children living in Nairobi, Kenya. Our shelter, education and community outreach services, coupled with local resources and the refugee community, empower this population to live healthy lives. By providing resources for long-term support, these girls and young women become catalysts for strengthening networks creating sustainable change within the local and global communities.
Description
Heshima Kenya, a nonprofit organization operating in Nairobi, Kenya, is the first organization in Kenya devoted to protecting unaccompanied and separated refugee children and youth, with a special focus in supporting women and girls ages 13 to 23 years old from Somalia, Ethiopia, DR Congo, Sudan, Rwanda, and Burundi.
We provide shelter, education, vocational training, case management support, and advocacy to participants and their children who have experienced the detrimental effects of war, the loss of their families, and, in many cases, kidnapping, rape, trafficking, unlawful detainment, and torture.
We also mobilize members of the refugee community through educational outreach. At the core of Heshima Kenya’s model is the creation of a social network that empowers girls and young women to strive for economic self-sufficiency and become community leaders in their own right.
