The Volunteer Center currently has openings on its Board of Directors for adults who are interested in helping promote volunteerism and support over 160 nonprofit partners. Board members help run the five Community Days of Service, connect community members to volunteer needs and serve as advocates for volunteerism throughout the North Shore, north side of Chicago and the New Trier Township. Board members must reside either in the New Trier Township or the surrounding suburbs on the North Shore, as our supporters and service groups (schools and faith-based organizations are located here). Villages include, Evanston, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Winnetka, Northfield, Glencoe, Glenview and Northbrook. The current demographic of the board members are young parents and middle aged individuals who are involved in the community.

The Board of Directors must be able to attend board meetings. The board meets once a month September through June the second Monday of the month from 4:00-5:30pm at The Volunteer Center's office in Winnetka, IL. Board members serve on a committee throughout the year and schedule meetings to accommodate committee members. Join this very active, engaging group of individuals to help promote volunteerism and make a difference in the community by supporting our wonderful nonprofit partners. Visit our website, https://VolunteerCenterHelps.org for more information about our programming and how you can help.

We are in particular need of individuals who have served as treasurers for other nonprofits (or school PTO/PTA), as well as community organizers and marketing and communications individuals. Publicity your thing? We need you! Help us help others and join our group of dedicated individuals. The major requirement is a passion to help and make a difference. Feel free to share this with your like-minded friends who also believe in service and helping those in need and join together. Your impact will be that much greater - and more fun to have a buddy with you.

Mission Statement

The Mission of The Volunteer Center is to promote volunteerism, support nonprofit organizations, and engage people in meaningful volunteer service in the communities we serve.

Description

Established in 1960, The Volunteer Center (VC) helps individuals and service groups of all ages and abilities in the northeast metro Chicago area make a difference by volunteering with over 160 nonprofit partner organizations and their clients in need. This is accomplished via volunteer opportunities posted by the nonprofit partners on the VC website, https://VolunteerCenterHelps.org or through participation in VC sponsored community-wide Days of Service. The VC also supports its nonprofit partners through best practice trainings to help them engage volunteers in impactful volunteer experiences that benefit both the nonprofit and the volunteer.
