Hosted by American Rivers as part of the annual Licking County River Round up. The River Round Up began as a Newark City Litter initiative in 1990 to clean up the Licking River. The annual river clean up brought out hundreds of volunteers who pulled tires, shopping carts and mountains of trash from an 18 mile stretch of the river. Through their efforts, a river that had all but been abandoned, has seen a rebirth of aquatic and bird life.

On Saturday, September 12, 2015, our goal is to continue this incredible community-based conservation tradition. Clean up locations throughout the county include: Pataskala and the South Fork Licking River, Granville and the Raccoon Creek , Hebron and the storm water ditch system, Union Township and the South Fork Licking River, St. Lousiville and the North Fork Licking River, Heath and the creeks flowing into the South Fork Licking River, Newark and the main stem Licking River, and Hanover and Blackhand Gorge.

Volunteer opportunities include: walking along waterway banks picking up trash, paddling canoes and kayaks in deeper sections picking up trash, driving vehicles to shuttle people and equipment, helping prep the week before the event, assisting with registration on site, helping clean up boats and equipment after the event, photographing the event, and more. There is a place for everyone to participate!
