Sidewalking in a therapeutic riding lesson.

Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program (NVTRP) provides equine assisted activities for children and adults with disabilities, youth-at-risk, veterans, and their families in an inclusive, community setting.

Come join the NVTRP community and help make a difference in our riders' lives! Volunteers assist with horse-back riding lessons as sidewalkers (walking beside the rider to help them during the lesson), horse leaders (horse leaders must have horse handling skills) and also help with feeding, grooming and stall cleaning. Horse experience and experience working with disabilties is a plus, but not required for most positions. Training will be provided to all volunteers.

Most volunteers commit to a roughly 3-4 hour shift at least once a week. While it is ideal if you can commit to one day each week, we can work with most schedules. This is an active, fun, and extremely rewarding volunteer experience!
