RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Food Pantry Director is responsible for monitoring volunteers’ work (including the Social Work intern) to ensure that the following tasks are completed and assist when necessary:

  • Coordination of Pantry volunteers
  • Calendar production and distribution
  • Ordering of food from Community FoodBank of New Jersey in Hillside, New Jersey (hereby known as "Hillside") and other sources
  • Receiving of food from Hillside
  • Inventorying and reporting to Hillside
  • Monitoring the distribution of food to clients
  • Registering of clients, client lists, and Access program of client records
  • Bagging of food
  • Cleaning the Pantry on a monthly basis
  • Creating coordinating fundraising and food donations efforts both within Christ Church and outside
  • Writing grant proposals
  • Acknowledging donations

The Food Pantry Director is contact person for all sources of food including, but not limited to:

  • Community Food Bank of New Jersey in Hillside, New Jersey
  • Middlesex County Food Bank
  • Rutgers Against Hunger
  • Elijah’s Promise

The Food Pantry Director must know regulations governing Food Pantry operations as outlined in the Community FoodBank of New Jersey Manual and must ensure adherence to these regulations.

The Food Pantry Director must be a Certified Food Handler (certification can be obtained on internet at www.njfoodhandlers.com) and must attend the Hillside Agency Express Training.

The Food Pantry Director must monitor the Food Pantry’s income and expenditures (reports given upon request to the Bookkeeper) as well as the Hillside financial accounts.

The Food Pantry Director must report to the Outreach Committee Chair who sits on the Vestry (Parish Board) all things related to the Pantry periodically.

The Food Pantry Director will meet with the Food Pantry Board, the Social Work intern (if applicable) and the Rector and/or Deacon on a regular basis and must organize child care for those Food Pantry Board members who need it.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Food Pantry Director should be someone who

  1. Is passionate about serving people in need.
  2. Has an ability and willingness to advocate for the poor and the hungry.
  3. Has the time and energy to do this work.
  4. Has good organizational and planning skills.
  5. Has good computer skills, including Microsoft programs such as Word and Access for maintaining records of clients and developing written reports.
  6. Has a desire to learn how the Food Pantry currently works and to offer suggestions on how to improve how it functions.
  7. Has the ability and willingness to delegate, work as a team member and support Food Pantry volunteers.
  8. Has good interpersonal and communication skills.
  9. Has some experience with the desire to work closely with volunteers from all sectors of life.
  10. Has strong group process skills and the ability to lead active and productive meetings.

RESPONSIBLE TO: the Rector; the Deacon; the Food Pantry Board; Outreach Committee Chair.

SUPPORT PROVIDED:

  1. Primary personal and professional support will be the Rector.
  2. Some support from the Parish Sexton for Food Pantry events.
  3. Training on copy machine and other office resources.

Although the Food Pantry is a ministry of Christ Episcopal Church, the Food Pantry Director does not have to be a member of this church or of any religious organization or faith.

Description

The Christ Church Food Pantry is opened 6 days per month and services several hundred people each month. We are staffed entirely by volunteers from all walks of life - some are parishioners of Christ Church and others are not. We look forward to continuing to serve New Brunswick and Middlesex County for years to come!
