Description

Missing Pet Partnership, a national nonprofit organization, recently launched the first-ever all volunteer lost pet search-and-rescue team in King County, WA. We need dependable adults willing to make the committment necessary to become Missing Animal Response volunteer Pet Detectives. Pet Detectives learn pet search and rescue techniques and then use those techniques, as well as trained pet search dogs to respond to calls from the general public for assistance finding lost pets. Qualified candidates will be able to obtain MAR training in the use of high-tech equipment (amplified listening devices, night vision, baby monitors), and search dogs trained to track lost dogs and cats.

Skills

  • Volunteers must be physically fit, animal-friendly, determined and have good people skills. Candidates should be quick learners, team players, and willing to take direction. Dog behavior and/or training experience a plus. Missing Pet Partnership needs several volunteers who can be available at various times. Currently, our greatest need is for Pet Detectives who can respond to searches during daylight hours on weekdays and/or evening (surveillence) cases. A strong mental outlook is also required as not all searches conclude in happy endings. Missing Pet Partnership volunteers also serve as ambassadors for our programs and often attend special events. While our office is located in Federal Way, we hold monthly meetings in Kent (and eventually we will hold team meetings in Bellevue and in Seattle).
