ORGANIZATION: Outreach Uganda

Girl's Education Initiaitve Program- weekly mtg
Our girls' coordinator meets weekly with the girls in our Girls' Education Initiative program in northern Uganda. July 2014 photo.

Help us stand out in the crowd! We need someone with business-related social media and marketing expertise including practicial experience (ideally with nonrprofits) to manage and post to our nonprofit's facebook account. Our current volunteer has been doing a great job but needs to step down due to other commitments. We have over 8000 "Likes" on our page and want to continue to engage our supporters, get more Likes and excite people to eventually more actively support our nonprofit.

We welcome your ideas and feedback relative to ideas to implement. Some specific things we have done: Use photos in our posts, utilize surveys and contests to engage our followers, make our page "conversational" and provide items of interest to our followers, and many more... Please help us figure out how to connect with our audience, encourage traffic to our web site, and tell our story to ultimately find those who will eventually become committed to helping our cause in some way.

We have been posting 3 to 5 times per week. Posts can be pre-scheduled.

Description

Our empowerment activities include:

3. business development assistance
4. cash crop agriculture activities

Education and training activities include:

3. training programs for women as well as teachers

Community empowerment programs include:
1. partnering with a northern Uganda community on its primary school which has over 500 students and 18 teachers and 9 support staff

Prior to working with OU, our women participants were normally living on less than $2 per day, and were supporting 8 to 10 children and orphans in their households. Many are widows whose husbands died in the war, or from AIDS.

We do not give handouts but work on building capacity and encouraging those we work with to help themselves.
