What is EF High School Exchange Year?
EF High School Exchange Year is a not-for-profit organization that connects talented, enthusiastic teenagers from around the world with caring volunteer American host families across the country. Our tradition of excellence, combined with our unparalleled support on the local and national levels, has made us the largest facilitator of high school year programs for exchange students coming into the United States. Our students, host families, and volunteers come away with in-depth understanding of other cultures, lasting international friendships, and memories to last a lifetime.

Hosting a Student:
Our students come from 13 different countries, and are between the ages of 15-18 years old. All of our students are thoroughly screened in their home country, by our respective offices, and held to a standard of maturity and academic achievement.
Our three primary requirements for host families are to provide a bed that is not convertible in fashion, to provide three meals a day, and transportation to and from the high school. We also have local coordinators situated around the country that are there to provide support and help while the student is staying at your home.
Host families are volunteers, they are not paid. According the U.S. Department of State, host families cannot receive financial gain from their participation in a student exchange program. This rule is designed to ensure that host families are participating in the program for the right reasons. However, in recognition of their role as citizen ambassadors, all host families are eligible to receive a charitable tax deduction on their tax return.

Description
EF High School Exchange Year has been promoting global awareness through student exchange for over 40 years. Each year, we bring high school exchange students from around the world to live with volunteer families in the USA for a semester or academic year. Exchange students attend a local high school and get to experience life as an American teenager. Host families gain access to a new culture and an international family member for life. And our EF coordinators help facilitate the process every step of the way.
