about BOSS' work and the policy issues that create inequity and injustice!

Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency (BOSS)
has been helping homeless, poor, and disabled people for over 50 years - helping people overcome crisis and turn their lives around. We are looking for a reliable, organized, detail-minded social media & marketing intern who can help us with this work! The BOSS development office is responsible for:

  • Find and create great content: Research stories & issues that are relevant to BOSS's work; write website blog and social media posts about BOSS programs, staff, participants, and the policy and community issues relevant to our work; help inspire and encourage community members to get involved in social change!
  • Assist Marketing Department: Work with the BOSS Marketing & Communications Manager to ensure a continual stream of compelling posts on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube; help make sure BOSS channels are up-to-date by clearing out old content or reorganizing posts, etc.
  • Tabling at local events/fairs: Help with events & other community outreach as time permits!

Days/times:
FLEXIBLE! We can arrange a schedule that works for you. While most of the work can be done remotely, we ask interns to come on-site once a week to meet with the Marketing & Communications Manager.

Our Mission BOSS's mission is to help homeless, poor, and disabled people achieve health and self-sufficiency, and to fight against the root causes of poverty and homelessness. Description

Since 1971 BOSS has provided housing and services to over 1,500 homeless people each year. We have programs for both single adults and families with children. Most BOSS participants are dealing with multiple challenges: mental illness, substance abuse, domestic violence, illiteracy, lack of job skills, social isolation, trauma, and entrenched feelings of exhaustion and hopelessness. BOSS programs focus on teaching life skills, connecting people with community resources, and creating supportive and positive environments that motivate people and build hope.

Our services address 4 areas:
- HOUSING: Shelter, transitional/special needs housing, permanent housing assistance.
- HEALTH: Physical and mental health services, medication monitoring, drug/alcohol recovery counseling, socialization, case management for the seriously mentally ill.
- ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Job readiness assessments, resume-building, job search assistance, job development with employers, job creation, adult education.
- SOCIAL JUSTICE: Community building, leadership development, and collaborative action campaigns on targeted policy goals.
