This position is 12 months (renewable), full time Stipend includes: living allowance, education award/end of service stipend; health coverage, and childcare assistance if eligible Job Overview Imagine a year of service spend nestled in the mountains of beautiful and cultural ­­­­­­­Southern Colorado, with many opportunities to greatly impact the lives of Colorado’s under-served youth. Generation Schools Network is actively seeking AmeriCorps VISTA members to live and work for a year in Trinidad, Colorado. ­­­­­ Generation Schools Network (GSN) is a nonprofit that seeks to transform public education through sustainable, scalable strategies that drive student achievement and teacher effectiveness for all students and teachers. GSN seeks motivated self-starters to join its team as VISTA members who would help advance the organization’s vision to help prepare students for success in school, work and life, by engaging the community to provide further support to its partner schools. The VISTA members in Trinidad will help develop tools and procedures specifically in the areas of medical career pathway creation , social media and communications, event planning, teacher recruitment, and at-risk student services program support. These area of focus will boost GSN’s mission of schools to provide more supports to students, helping them succeed in the following areas: academic preparedness, college and career readiness, and health and wellness. These three elements are part of the three-tiered focus that Generation Schools Network helps its partner schools to implement. Duties May Include :

  • Collaborate with local community partners, school districts, and higher education partners to create a medical career pathway
  • Develop and implement capacity-building strategies at school and district levels that will help schools to further engage the community on behalf of student success as well as family and school staff support
  • Design and implement strategies for social media communications
  • Help to solidify the on-boarding process, training materials, supervision, and appreciation of volunteers
  • Build community partnerships
  • Other projects as needed

Skills/Qualifications/Experience Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; At least 21 years old, Experience working with low-income backgrounds preferred; Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; Highly organized, able to multi-task, work independently, and exercise discretion. Spanish-English bilingual a plus, but not required. We are looking for individuals with backgrounds in school counseling, youth development, community outreach, writing , social media and/or experience with opportunity (at-risk) youth.
