GOTR Girls LOVE their Coaches!
Fun times at the GOTR 5k Celebration!

Coaching is the most rewarding way to get involved with Girls on the Run New Orleans! Volunteer Coaches serve as role models and mentors for the girls who participate in GOTR programs around the area.

We are currently recruiting for our Spring 2020 season, which will run January- April 2020! APPLICATIONS FOR SPRING 2020 DUE JANUARY 13th.

At each program location, 3 or more coaches deliver the GOTR curriculum, twice a week for 90 minutes to groups of 8-20 girls. Coaches are not required to be runners, they simply must be passionate about the mission of Girls on the Run, committed to working with a group of girls throughout the 10 week season and able to bring energy and joy to each practice!

The Head Coach is a volunteer position that works with a team of coaches to facilitate the Girls on the Run curriculum to program participants. This position works closely with the Program Director and entails approximately 4 hours per week with additional time required on two to three weekend days for: a one day four hour training; a community race event; and for First Aid/CPR training, if necessary.

The Assistant Coach is a volunteer position that assists the Head Coach(s) at a Girls on the Run program site. The position entails approximately 1.5-3 hours per week for 10 weeks. Assistant Coaches can choose to attend both program sessions per week OR commit to only one day a week. We ask each Assistant Coach to determine which schedule works best for them and to maintain that schedule throughout the program for consistency on behalf of the girls. While the Assistant Coach is not responsible for facilitating the Girls on the Run curriculum, they are there to support the Head Coach and program participants in many ways.

This volunteer position may be used as a service learning project, internship, or other college credit project upon agreement of the college/university and Director.

Description

At Girls on the Run we inspire girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through our research-based curricula which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.

Why it Matters?

Girls face social pressures and conflicting messages about how they should act and who they should be. Studies show that by adolescence, girls' confidence drops about twice as much as boys'. Friendships become more complicated and challenging, girls' perception of their academic ability declines, the likelihood of anxiety and depression increases and participation in physical activity plummets.

It doesn't have to be this way.

We believe that EVERY GIRL is inherently FULL OF POWERand POTENTIAL. By knowing they are the leaders of their lives, these are the girls who WILL CHANGE THE WORLD.
