Ravine campaign finale

This event will be the finale of three events which are focused on clearing Tryon Creek's West Horse loop ravine of invasive species. This section of the ravine is accessible only during the summer months and it's restoration is pivotal to the health of that section of the park.

Volunteers will be given an introduction to the history of the park, OPRD, FOTC, as well as basic healthy forest ecosystem and stewardship concepts. You will also learn the fundamentals of effective invasive species removal and the value of this work. After the 3-hour ivy pull work party finishes, the volunteers will receive a t-shirt made especially for the event as well as a delicious lunch meal in gratitude of your service.

The Friends of Tryon Creek’s mission is to connect people to this important natural area, share our passion for the wonders of nature and inspire environmental stewardship in all.

Ivy out competes our native plants, covers tree canopy stopping photosynthesis, takes over the forest floor and ruins precious habitat. We choose to remove this ivy manually without chemicals in order to minimize damage to the ecosystem, so help from the greater community is very much appreciated. Come hang out with fellow nature enthusiasts and give back to your community!
