Youth Enrichment Program

We are looking for great, dedicated and creative volunteers to assist Get Scholarship Ready in promoting self-sufficient amongst our youth and parents in our community. We meet every second Saturday from 10:30 to 12:30 at the North Dade Regional Library. In addition we have activities scheduled for local college tours, skating, bowling, sporting events and more. We need volunteers to help mentor students, provide photography services, video recording service, grant writing service, market services and transportation services. Mission Statement

Get Scholarship Ready (GSR) is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization designed to conduct community outreach programs to enhance self-sufficiency amongst youth by promoting post educational achievement and providing entrepreneurship training to at risk youth in low income areas. Get Scholarship Ready engages the support of the community and other agencies to further the organization’s goal in assisting local government with youth crime prevention initiatives by promoting an alternative lifestyle throughout Miami Dade and Broward County areas.

The board members of GSR has a primary focus on students whose families are deemed low income, students raised in a single parent household, and/or students who reside with a household member who has been incarcerated.

Description

The 2015-2016 Plan of Action for GSR focuses on (5) segments:

  1. Youth Enrichment Program (YEP)
  2. Annual 8 th Grade Forum
  3. Free ACT/SAT Exam Prep Course
  4. 2016 Leadership Summer Camp
  5. Scholarship Awards

The purpose of the YEP is to provide students grades 6 th - 8 th access to a free 10 month program which introduces the student to relevant program sessions that engages students to participate in activities, assist the students in establishing educational and career g mentor students to understand alternative life options available to them, preparing students in becoming scholarship ready, as well as provide entrepreneurship training.

The purpose of the Annual 8 th Grade Forum is to provide students transitioning from 8 th grade to high school an informative session conducted by a high school counselor who will train and inform both parents and students on the requirements to qualify for a Florida Bright Future Scholarship. In addition, this forum session will be a GSR collaboration effort with other community organizations present that would be able to provide family services or referrals, such as health care information, job placement, college recruiters, etc.

The purpose of the ACT/SAT Exam Prep Course is to provide high school students in the grades 11 th and 12 th with an opportunity to attend a free exam preparation session, in an effort to assist students to obtain a passing score for scholarship awards and college entrance applications.

The purpose of the 2017 Leadership Summer Camp program is to provide youth ages 6 - 15 years of age an opportunity to part-take in a summer camp that will promote post education, responsibility, accountability and self-confidence.

GSR is seeking the assistance of local organizations with like missions, faith base organizations and local, state and federal grant funding to support its initiatives for the youth of our community.
