Grey Cloud Dunes is one of those places you can hardly believe is in a metro area. Located in Cottage Grove, this highly protected Scientific and Natural Area (SNA) features two sandy terraces along the river. Join FMR ecologists Thursday, July 23rd, 6-8 p.m. Volunteers will help remove sumac, a shrubby tree that would otherwise overtake this vital habitat. Volunteers may also help remove trash, possibly near the parking area or riverfront, depending on where it's accumulated.
Due to tool usage, including loppers and saws, this event is not suitable for youth. As this a special type of park is meant to protect rare, fragile plant and animal habitat.
Capacity is limited, in part to tread lightly on this special place but also to make sure everyone has a chance to ask questions about the site's ecology and the many native plants and flowers sure to be in bloom on this summer evening.

Mission Statement
Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) engages people to protect, restore and enhance the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities region.
Description
Friends of the Mississippi River is proud to work with roughly 3,000 volunteers annually.
We keep volunteering simple, fun and satisfying -- there are no applications, and you can sign up for one event or several. We list events especially in need of volunteers here on VolunteerMatch.com, but maintain a full calendar of 60+ events a year at www.fmr.org/events.
Our project work includes conservation and restoration of natural areas and habitat, education on watershed protection issues, and organizing activities that connect the public to the Mississippi River.
