Volunteers Have More Fun Than the Kids!
Our volunteers tell us it was their Best Day too!

You will have a blast sharing a day at the beach with kids with special needs from military families. No experience or special skills required. We have opportunities to make a real difference for every volunteer, and consistently hear from our volunteers that their day was their best day, which is why most of our volunteers join us on a regular basis.

We have fun positions in and out of the water, some require special skills and experience others simply require and open mind and the ability to have fun.

Beach Buddies - Be paired with one of our kids with special needs to be their buddy for the day to help them make the most of their day at the beach. (this is one of the favorite volunteer positions - you won’t believe what an impact this may have on you!)

Our volunteer base ranges from 12 years old (when accompanied by a parent) to 80+, and come from careers as rocket scientists (seriously) to students, and everything in between.

You will feel welcome from the moment you check in. We will introduce you to those who have been volunteers before to show you the ropes. We have a have a group overview, training, discussion about the day at the beginning of every event.

Our day starts at 8:00AM and runs till about 2:00 including take down and packing up.

Mission Statement

Best Day Foundation enables children with special needs to build confidence and self-esteem through safe fun, adventure activities which stretch their limits, expand their true potential and connect them with diverse populations in their community.

Description

Our programs empower local volunteers with the infrastructure, education and training to create scalable, self-sustaining programs that deliver safe outdoor experiences to children with special needs. Current activities include surfing, bodyboarding, kayaking, stand up paddling (SUP), snow sports, and more.

We serve children aged 4-24 with any physical or developmental special need including Autism, Cerbral Palsy, Down syndrome, blindness, spinal cord injuries, cancer, and more.

Our community volunteers, who are integral to each event, often say that their experience volunteering is as fun and life-changing for them as it is for the children they help.

Current Best Day chapters serve Florida, New Jersey, and California (Ventura, Orange County, San Diego, and Santa Barbara areas).

As of April, 2016 the organization has held 147 events serving more than 5,000 children with special needs with the help of thousands of community volunteers who have contributed over 94,000 hours of community service. Once you join us you will be hooked... at least that's what our volunteers keep telling us. What are you waiting for... let's get started!
