The Secret Gardens Tour is one of our most popular volunteer opportunities, because volunteers get to accompany groups of visitors on a walking tour of 9-10 Hoboken gardens for free, as a guide. No gardening expertise is needed, as your job is mostly to keep groups of about 15 tour goers together and keep them moving along the route. Tours leave every 15 minutes from the Museum, and need to maintain even spacing. The tour usually takes about two and a half hours, and you'll need comfortable shoes, sunscreen and stamina.
We need about 60 volunteers for the Garden Tour, so we welcome friends and small groups, as we always can use more volunteers. At the end of the event, there's a lovely barbecue at the Museum for the gardeners and volunteers, usually starting around 6:30 pm.
You can sign yourself up for a shift at our online signup sheet on VolunteerSpot.com: http://vols.pt/wBTRdC, or send me an email at volunteer@hobokenmuseum.org.

Through this, the Museum serves the people of the city of Hoboken and all those who enjoy its history and culture.
Description
The Hoboken Historical Museum (est. 1986) collects and displays artifacts in themed exhibitions on Hoboken history and offers educational programs, lectures, tours and hosts films and plays. We are a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
Recent exhibits have included a focus on Hoboken's relationship with the Hudson River and its role as a sweets producer. Other exhibits included shipping history, an anniversary of the movie "On the Waterfront," the city's contributions to the world of music, and its struggle and revival through the 1970s. Our upper gallery space features six local artists' work per year.
We are open six days a week in a 2,000-square-foot space in one of the oldest buildings on Hoboken's waterfront, the former Bethlehem Steel machine shop, now known as the Shipyard.
We also publish books and walking-tour maps, as well as a series of oral history chapbooks documenting the diverse communities of Hoboken's recent past. Each exhibit offers a tailored curriculum for local schools and groups of youngsters.
