Volunteer Position Description: House Divided Volunteer

Mission of the Ohio History Connection:

The Ohio History Connection's mission is to spark discovery of Ohio history! We help people connect with Ohio’s past to understand the present and create a better future.

Summary:

Watch, as the Ohio Village will come alive with the heat, smoke, and noise of the Civil War complete with battles, gun and cannon demonstrations and Union and Confederate troops. Event assistance for House Divided Civil War Reenactment Weekend on June 26 th, 27 th and 28 th. Various Positions needed.

Responsibilities:

Check-in of Reenactors (at least 2 needed throughout shifts): Volunteers will sign-in incoming reenactors, make sure they sign waiver forms and give them welcome packets. Position needed for Friday afternoon and evening (2-6pm and 6-10pm), and Saturday morning (8am-12pm).

Crowd Director (6-8 each day): Volunteers will help setup caution tape in preparation for the battle and then stand in strategic spots to watch over spectators and make sure small children do not run under the tape into the battle area. (12-2pm Saturday, 1-3pm Sunday)

Gatehouse (2 needed throughout shifts): Volunteers will allow reenactors and other volunteers to enter through the gatehouse; and redirect guests to enter through the museum entrance. On Saturday morning, these volunteers may also do some Reenactor check-ins. (8-5pm Saturday, 12-5pm Sunday)

Skills Required:

Education and/or Experience: No experience necessary.

Language Skills: Ability to read and understand basic text. Ability to give location directions.

Time Commitment:

June 26 th, 27 thand 28 th

(8am-5pm) Specific time needs are listed under Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Work Environment:

Large crowds expected. May have to engage large numbers of people

Physical Demands:

Some walking for Crowd Control volunteers.

Age Requirement:

16+
