The Friends of the HTFL is seeking to expand the Board. Our mission is to promote, advocate on behalf of, and fundraise for the Library. We have 10 monthly meetings (no meeting in July or December). In addition to these meetings, Board members are expected to work several fundraising events each year:

  • May Beach Bag Book Sale -- sell books, move books, straighten up after customers (one day, two hours)
  • Annual Book Sale -- sell books, move books, straighten up after customers (five days, several hours over the course of the sale)
  • Designer Bag Bingo -- sell tickets, solicit bags (one day, several hours)
  • Silent Auction -- solicit donations, online or in person; set up auction at Gala; attend Gala (hours vary)

Other volunteer opportunities include website maintenance, social media promotions, database creation and management, fundraising per your passion. If you have a good idea, the Board will help make it happen.

Mission Statement

The Friends of the Haverford Township Free Library is a nonprofit group of citizens who work together to stimulate a greater interest in and use of the library; to acquaint the community with the functions, resources, facilities and needs of the library; to promote and enrich the services of the library; to encourage and administer library gifts, donations, and memorials of individuals and organizations in such a manner that does not diminish the need for public funding of the library; to coordinate information to the community on issues of library legislation; to expand the role of the Haverford Township Free Library in the cultural and educational development of the township and to ensure the existence of the Haverford Township Free Library for years to come.

Description

Active since 2003, The Friends of the Haverford Township Free Library is a volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit organization devoted to helping the library enrich the lives of community residents.

All Friends are volunteers. All of our proceeds are donated to the library. The money we have raised has helped fund the Summer Reading Program and other special programs, purchased books, CDs, DVDs, computers, furnishings, and other items.

Our contributions to the library, over $150,000 as of March 2015, have benefited our township’s citizens, from toddlers to seniors and the homebound. We were awarded the John & Mary Lou Toal Award of Honor in 2007.

What We Do

The Friends raise funds through two book sales, designer bag bingo, a silent auction at the library celebration, and membership dues. All of these funds are then donated to the library for specific acquisitions, programs, and services. In addition to this central fundraising work, the Friends strive to:

  • stimulate a greater interest in and use of the library by promoting and enriching library services
  • acquaint the community with the functions, resources, facilities, and needs of the library
  • expand the role of the Haverford Township Free Library in the cultural and educational development of the township to ensure its existence for years to come.
