Are you outgoing? Do you love to learn about new things? Are you interested in puppetry? Are you excited about sharing stories with people of all ages? If so, we've got a volunteer position for you!

The Center for Puppetry Arts Museum Docents are trained volunteers who help inspire our patrons to explore and discover the history and magic of puppetry through the puppets on display at the Center.

Center Docents are adults of all ages, walks of life, and educational backgrounds who enjoy puppetry, learning new things, and sharing that knowledge with others. Docents greet museum guests, lead tours, assist with special events, and act as ambassadors of CPA.

Training:

CPA’s Docent candidates must go through a 10 week training program to gain the necessary skills and experience to lead tours and to familiarize themselves with CPA’s mission, history, museum collection, etc. Training sessions are 3 hours each, once a week. Docents must commit to the program for a minimum of one year, volunteering at least 2 shifts a month throughout the year. The summerr class starts June 1st and will be every Wednesday from 3:00pm-6:00pm until July 27th.

How to Apply:
Docents provide a valuable service to CPA and are a vital part of our community. If you would like to contribute your time and talent, fill out the application at http://www.puppet.org/contribute/docent.shtml. Following your application the Volunteer Coordinator will contact you with the specific class schedule.

Mission Statement

In 1978 Kermit the Frog accompanied by his creator, Jim Henson, cut the ribbon officially opening the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta. The Center was the vision of founder Vincent Anthony for a new arts institution in Atlanta - a magical place where art and education intersect to stimulate creativity and learning. Today the Center is the largest nonprofit in the U.S. dedicated to the art of puppetry. Widely regarded as a cultural treasure, the Center delights audiences of all ages with sophisticated, fully staged puppetry shows; museum exhibits putting puppetry into global, cultural and historical contexts; and arts infused education programs meeting state or national curriculum standards to enhance classroom learning in a unique way.
