A leadership position is available as President of Friends of the Livermore Public Library, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Library, its services, and programs by advocating for support and use of the Library, generating funding, and developing volunteer participation.
Responsibilities
- Acts as Chief Executive Officer and presides over Board of Directors' meetings, held every other month, beginning in July.
- Serves as a member of the Executive Committee with the other three Board Officers to set Board meeting agendas, oversee bookstore operations and address pertinent issues.
- Fosters the development of ideas and projects that help the organization fulfill its purposes and goals in support of the Library.
Time Commitment
Minimum required is 2 hours, plus some prep time, for each Executive Committee meeting and each Board meeting on an every other month basis. The first several weeks, as a transition period, would add a few hours each week. It is then up to the person who becomes President to decide how much additional time and energy s/he will devote to the organization.
Board meetings are currently held on the 3 rd Thursday evening of every other month, starting in July. Executive Committee meetings are usually held one evening in the prior week. Whatever additional hours the President chooses to spend in this role can usually be done when convenient.
Qualifications
- Prior experience serving on a board, especially for a non-profit organization, is desirable
- A recognition of the importance of volunteering in the community
- A willingness and ability to work successfully in a group setting to achieve common goals
