This will be our first time cleaning up the Missouri River on this stretch of river downstream of the Omaha/Council Bluffs Metro area. We're partnering with Fontenelle Forest to tackle mounds of trash deposited by the 2011 flood. And we need your help!
The event is part of"The Great Big Muddy Meet Up" - a Missouri River Clean-up on Saturday, followed by an interactive education day on Sunday for the whole family called " Learn About the Mighty Missouri". (See more info on the right)
For Saturday's Missouri River Clean-up, we'll be working on cleaning up the floodplain forest that is part of Fontenelle Forest on Manawa Bend. This area, located on a 90 degree bend on the river, was overflowed by floodwaters during the Great Flood of 2011 and massive piles of floodborne trash were deposited there. With the help of the Fontenelle Forest Crew, NE Game and Parks, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and YOU, we're going to clean it up!

Description
In twenty two years, Missouri River Relief has amassed an outstanding record: Cleaning over a million pounds of trash from the Missouri river shores and islands, conducting educational activities for over 30,874 students & teachers, and taking over 29,799 people out on the river to work for a better river environment.
Engaging 24 communities along the Missouri River to protect our drinking water, to ensure that the stewardship of the Missouri River remains strong, to protect and preserve this precious resource for future generations.
As we go along the river, we'll look for key individuals and groups to help create a community of Missouri River Action Teams (MoRATs) up & down the river to take action and help work for the health and beauty of the river for decades to come.
