From Program Director Karin Page: There is a lot of rain forecast for these days, and we don't know (at this time) which day will be sunny or dry enough to work in the fields. But one of those days will be dry enough and we need to help our generous, dear farmer, Joe Steineger on that day. So, here's the plan. I need to have a team of 5 people ready on each day of the week, Monday through Saturday. If you could help, please let me know which day or days. I will let you know the night before if we're "on" or "off." We will be planting cabbage, eggplant, and pepper plants - the holes will already be dug, we just put in the plants and water with miracle grow. This is a good job for even children. He also mentioned that it's been way too wet to cultivate between the potatoes, so we could use some people who know what to do with a hoe.
Joe Steineger gives us so much food - he plants crops just for us. Remember the whole potato field and turnip and mustard fields he donated last year? He lets us glean his crops and he donates the excess that he doesn't sell at market. He's been laid up with pneumonia and back surgery for the past 4 weeks, so he hasn't been able to get his crops in. Let's help him - it will help us get food for people in need later in the year!1 More opportunity with After the Harvest
