Earth Explorers is an independent nonprofit that partners with local schools and research institutions to provide Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) curriculum with education in filmmaking to spark a lifelong interest in STEM topics. Earth Explorers has developed three programs (6th, 7th and 8th grade) that students take as elective STEM courses during the course of their normal school day. EE works in Longmont, Colorado.

The Program Operations Manager (POM) is a critical Earth Explorers team member, responsible for recruiting specific program volunteers and managing their schedules and resources. The ideal candidate must be detail oriented, capable of recruiting and eventually tracking schedules of important volunteers, ensuring multiple parties are prepared for interactions with the students and a variety of other logistical tasks are handled on time. Throughout the process, trouble shooting is a major component of the position which requires flexibility and timely, creative problem solving. During the recruiting phase, communication and networking skills are invaluable. The position also arranges (with support from the executive director) the semester calendar and will support & arrange field trip logistics.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruiting Scientists & Mentors
  • Employing (and updating as necessary) a system of recruiting and retention and writing, updating all required materials for that system.
  • Working with past contacts and institutional education and outreach coordinators to identify potential scientists.
  • Vetting potential scientists, mentors.
  • Serving as the primary contact person for Scientists, Mentors & Outreach staff.
  • Scheduling all volunteers/staff to have adequate coverage for all programs & events
  • Scientists, mentors, support staff, teachers, volunteers, filmmaking instructors and/or volunteers.
  • Maintaining logistics calendar
  • Supporting the process of setting the Earth Explorers semester schedule
  • Updating the calendar (and notifying all pertinent parties) when the schedule shifts for any reason
  • Semester Communications
  • Reminding all Scientists and Mentors of upcoming events and providing all details (addresses, time, meeting location, simple lesson plans etc)
  • Answering all Scientist, Mentor and Teacher questions as they relate to logistics.
  • Troubleshooting scheduling problems (scientist illnesses, school closure, weather challenge etc)
