Position Overview: We are searching for volunteers who want direct and immediate satisfaction! With our Critical Home Repairs program, this is exactly what you will get from your volunteer experience as a member of our Neighborhood Revitalization Team! You will be working directly with the people who will feel your generosity and kindness and at the end of the day you will be able to say "I just provided a family with a decent place to live".

What is Critical Home Repairs?

Our critical home repair program aims to help low-income homeowners restore their homes so they do not have to live in unsafe or unhealthy conditions. These repairs include roof, siding, and deck repairs, building accessible ramps, door and window replacement, as well as painting and landscaping. Habitat SKC has completed 40 critical home repairs across King County and we need YOUR HELP to make a big positive life-changing impact on the lives of the people we serve.

QUALIFICATIONS

Everybody is invited and qualified to join our teams of volunteers. The one thing we do require from our volunteers is an open mind and a willingness to learn. On various exterior repair projects under the leadership of Habitat staff and AmeriCorps. Projects typically include:

  • deck and siding repair
  • painting and paint prep
  • other exterior improvement projects

Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Work may require bending, kneeling, and reaching in awkward and tiring positions
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Subject to background and sexual offender checks prior to volunteering

Schedule:

Home Repair projects happen weekly throughout the year. Members of the NR Volunteer Team will have the opportunity to sign-up well ahead of the events, and may also have the opportunity be notified as an "on-call" group for projects that need immediate volunteer involvement. We would love to have a consistent group of at least 5 volunteers to help out throughout the month as projects get added to the calendar.

Supplies / Training:

  • All tools and training will be provided on-site by Habitat Staff and AmeriCorps

Location: Rainier Beach neighborhood.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal NR Volunteer team member would be open to a range of tasks and willing to be flexible. Also we are looking for individuals who have a passion of preserving homes for qualified, low-income homeowners. Come with an open heart and an open attitude, and get ready to make a huge positive impact for a deserving family in need.

Habitat for Humanity of Seattle-King County works to eliminate substandard housing through constructing, renovating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.
