Become a Medicare Benefits Counselor.
Our volunteers offer Medicare beneficiaries unbiased information and assistance regarding health insurance choices. We offer FREE, comprehensive Medicare classroom training plus shadowing with an experienced Benefits Counselor to prepare volunteers to perform this important role. Benefits Counselors are needed to assist older adults and individuals with disabilities make informed decisions about their health care and prescription drug plans.
REQUIREMENTS FOR VOLUNTEERING:
- Commit to serving 16 hours a month with a one year commitment
Complete 18 hours of training
Pass an assessment
Complete an extensive background investigation
Attend monthly meetings
Submit monthly volunteer timecard
Input data into automated computer system on a monthly basis

Description
The SHIP Medicare Volunteer assists Medicare Beneficiaries on Medicare related health insurance issues. Through one-on-one counseling and informal advocacy, SHIP volunteers support the independence of people making choices, which affect their health and financial well-being.
