Help youth stop summer learning loss!

Super Volunteers needed!

Excelerate Success, The Spokane City and County Libraries and United Way have joined forces this summer to provide youth who are attending summer feeding sites in 5 neighborhoods in Spokane County (Riverside, Bemiss, East Central, West Valley, and Cheney) summer activities and programming to help stop Summer Learning loss.

We are looking for volunteers to work with our five summer AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) associates to assist in implementing the programming from June 15, 2015 to August 14, 2015. You can volunteer from 1-5 days per week. The activities will take place in the mornings between the breakfast program and lunch programming from approximately 8:30-noon, Monday-Friday.

Training in youth program quality and dealing with youth trauma and stress will be provided. Continuing learning opportunities during summer months is critical to maintaining reading levels, especially in low income communities. Without continued access to books, tools and support for literacy, children often backslide or lose classroom gains.

We are looking for people who are passionate and committed to helping support youth and individuals in communities out of poverty.

Please contact Gretchen Chomas at Gretchenc@unitedwayspokane.org with any questions.
