KYRS Seeks AmeriCorps Member!
Be part of a vital community radio station! Help create radio shows which feature under-heard voices, especially youth, low-income and minority perspectives.
This is a national service opportunity at KYRS, with living stipend provided by AmeriCorps. Also includes medical insurance. Term is 9-1-15 to 7-15-16. Must be 25 years old or younger at the time you apply.
KYRS-Thin Air Community Radio is a non-profit, non-commercial community radio station serving parts of five counties surrounding Spokane, WA. With more than 40 locally produced programs, KYRS aims to educate and activate listeners by providing a forum for neglected perspectives on important local, national and global issues. We produce the only local African American, Native American, environmental news, LGBT, and youth programs on Spokane radio, to name a few, and music programs that span the genres.
This AmeriCorps position will increase opportunities for disadvantaged youth and adults to participate in the vital community conversations taking place through KYRS. The program focuses on building un-served and underserved participants’ communication and job-readiness skills, allowing them to become better advocates for the issues they care about.
The AmeriCorps member will aid in the creation and maintenance of radio shows which feature under-heard voices, particularly perspectives from low income, racial/ethnic minority, and differently-abled populations in Spokane. The member will also develop internships and other structured learning opportunities in music, broadcasting, communications, marketing and accounting for youth and adults looking to increase their job readiness. These opportunities will be supplemented with public workshops in special focus areas, organized by the member and led by experts and professionals from the KYRS network. This position is contingent on funding from AmeriCorps.
