Big City Mountaineers

Big City Mountaineers instills critical life skills in under-served urban youth through transformative wilderness mentoring expeditions. Working with community-based partners and caring adults who act as mentors in the field, our professionally guided programs improve integrity, self-esteem, responsibility, decision-making abilities and communication skills in the youth we serve. BCM results show that youth return with the motivation and purpose to make positive changes in their lives including staying in school and avoiding drugs and delinquency.

General Description

The Marketing Intern will be responsible for assisting the organization in the development and implementation of its marketing and communications plan as well as Summit for Someone (SFS) marketing efforts. This will be accomplished through developing, maintaining and expanding marketing channels/methodologies to the climbing community, corporate partners, and BCM community.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Self motivated, dependable, responsible, honest and able to work independently
  • Passionate and inspired to support BCM’s mission
  • Professional or educational experience in marketing, communications or nonprofit work
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, database programs, the internet, electronic media
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaeously
  • Preferably have experience with Adobe

Primary Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Utilizes monthly marketing and communications calendars to develop content and disseminate targeted communications including monthly newsletters and social media posts
  • Assist with customizing and then disseminating climber communications for SFS program
  • Work directly with Director of Development and Summit for Someone Director to develop interesting incentive campaigns to boost fundraising
  • Develop marketing content for specific corporate partners
  • Assist in coordinating various marketing methods including, social media and e-marketing tools
  • Coordinate marketing outreach for SFS recruitment

Compensation & Position Information:

  • Unpaid internship for an average of 16 hrs/week (hours can vary significantly depending upon activities)
  • Location: Golden, OR
  • This is a seasonal position
  • BCM volunteer fee waived for participation as a mentor on expedition
