Description

ShelterCare has wonderful internships for students looking to work with adults living with mental illness! Our sites provide outstanding training for someone considering a career in mental health or social services.

Interns will work to provide counseling and support to mentally ill adults in a transitional housing program. In order to do this effectively, interns will need to: A. Become familiar with program policy and procedures. B. Assist staff completing intake paperwork for clients. C. Work with staff in providing supportive counseling, case management, and crisis intervention. D. Become familiar with the Title XIX Medicaid billing requirements and how to do chart notes. E. Provide individualized skills training to clients as directed by program management. F. Participate in staff treatment team meetings. G. Report to supervisor when residents are not complying with Program guidelines. Opportunities are available at several programs--ShelterCare's mental health programs range from crisis residential to long-term residential. We are looking for interns who are willing to work at our sites for at least two terms.

Skills

This part-time position (depending on the site, the position would entail 5-15 hours per week) requires that the individual be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in a human services field. anyone over 16 will need to do a criminal background check.
