PLACEMENT PURPOSE
Emergency Response Vehicles are a highly visible sign that the Red Cross is responding to a disaster in the community. The ERV Team members who operate the vehicle are frequently the first contact that people affected by disaster have with the Red Cross. ERV Teams need to be able to deal with clients effectively, sensitively, and responsibly and are often interviewed by the media

REQUIRED TRAINING
Driver training provided at local chapter and includes:
A. Classroom instruction
｠｠｠｠ Introduction to the ERV
｠｠｠｠ Customer Service
｠｠｠｠ Safe Food Handling
｠｠｠｠ Maintenance and Safety
｠｠｠｠ Going on Assignment
｠｠｠｠ What’s Next for You
B. On-line AARP Driver Safety Course
C. ARC Basic First Aid/CPR/AED qualification
D. A Road Test:
The Road Test will assure the American Red Cross of your ability and comfort level in driving a large motor vehicle. In teams of two, you will be asked to drive the ERV in a simulated disaster environment. The Road Test will involve.
- Driving safely on a simulated disaster route.
- Backing up the ERV
