Mission Statement
"Who knows what God has brought us through this child?" This is the English translation of the Nigerian Ibo word, "amachi", and forms the centerpiece of our mission at Amachi Pittsburgh to empower young minds to overcome the challenges of parental incarceration, and reach their full potential.
Description
In Allegheny County, it is estimated that over 8,500 children and youth on any given day have a parent behind bars. Amachi Pittsburgh is the only organization in Allegheny County with an exclusive and specialized focus on children of the incarcerated, and the demand for our services continues to increase. We are seeking support to enhance services while increasing organizational capacity to reach more youth. For over ten years, we have partnered with and equipped over 50 faith- and community-based organizations to serve in excess of 1,000 children, but our vision is to serve 1,000 children each year by the end of the next ten years. This is a bodacious goal that can be achieved by expanding our base of support on every level.
