UnChained pairs homeless dogs with at-risk youth through our Canines Teaching Compassion program. The youth learn positive communication and interaction with one another through teaching the dogs good manners, social skills and basic commands.
This training increases the dogs' chances of finding a forever home--dogs with basic skills are 50% more likely to be adopted--while it strengthens the youth's capacity for compassion, responsibility, creativity, team work and bonding. Everyone wins!
Our next program in Watsonville will begin on January 20...so now is the perfect time to get involved!
Join us at our next New Volunteer Orientation:
Tuesday, December 1 at 5:30pm in Santa Cruz or Salinas
We need Coaches to direct and coach the kids in training their pups. If you love to work with teens and have some knowledge of dog training/behavior, then this might be the spot for you.
We need doggy Chauffeurs to bring the dogs from their foster homes to program. If you prefer canine company and the open road, look no further.
We also need Foster people for each of our 3 program dogs. If you have love and shelter to give to a doggy in need you may be a good fit as a foster person.
To RSVP for the orientation, just send us a message!

Our vision is a community where people teach their peers how to be kind to themselves and to one another. Our vision is a community where the small, young, old, disabled, furry, and feathered are never intentionally harmed by the hands of another human being. Our vision is a community where people are not motivated by money or politics, but motivated by compasssion and empathy to protect and care for those who are unable to protect and care for themselves.
Description
UnChained uses the Canines Teaching Compassion program, an Animal Assisted Therapy (ATT) program, to help to change the lives of kids and save the lives of dogs by matching at-risk youth and shelter dogs together! The youth learn positive communication and interaction with one another through teaching the dogs good manners, social skills and basic commands This training increases the dogs' chances of becoming adopted, while it teaches the youth impulsivity-control, mastery of a skill, future orientation and the value of restorative justice.
