ORGANIZATION: United Way Passaic County

United Way of Passaic County's (UWPC) Financial Aid U helps create a college-going culture that breaks down barriers and allows students to reach their full potential. By creating realistic expectations about the cost of college, the need for college savings, and the potential of a degree, Financial Aid U equals successful students. Volunteers provide one-on-one service to parents and students serving as a guide through the financial aid process. The United Way of Passaic County AmeriCorps VISTAs will help high school students access secondary education by expanding the Financial Aid U program. The project's success will be sustained beyond the members' service year and will allow UWPC and its community partners to break the cycle of poverty experienced by the majority of youth in the Cities of Paterson and Passaic.

AmeriCorps VISTA members will help build organzational capacity, such as developing policies and procedures to enhance United Way of Passaic County's (UWPC) capacity to engage and maintain volunteers to support services, establishing community relationships to support the expansion of services as well as developing long term fundraising plans.
