Support our VESL program by tutoring a refugee. Tutors assist clients Tuesdays-Fridays from 9:00am-12:00pm. Materials and training will be provided, and an additional ESL orientation is required prior to starting this postition. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to get ESL experience with many levels of language learners. Minimum Commitment: 4hrs/ week for a minimum 4 months.

They step off the plane int he U.S. with next to nothing but their dignity, hope and determination. In Northern California (offices in Oakland, Sacramento, San Jose, and Turlock) and many other regional offices across the country, the IRC helps refugees rebuild their lives.
Description
The IRC Northern Calfiornia network, which includes offices in Oakland, Sacramento, San Jose, Turlock and Modesto, currently operates several highly effective programs designed to meet a wide variety of refugee and asylee newcomers' needs. We provide our clients with early resettlement support, English language classes, job placement assistance, one-on-one mentoring, community orientation, and immigration services. All programs are designed to help refugees become self-sufficient and productive members of their new communities.
Each local office has great volunteer and intern need to help make our program succesful. Consider volunteering your time to make THE difference in the life of a newly arrived refugee.
